Strategic Planning

Ten for One

A Framework for Building Our University Together

In 2013, we unveiled Johns Hopkins University’s Ten by Twenty strategic framework, which has fueled so much of our university’s progress in the years since. Drawing upon the lessons of the past decade, we launched a series of conversations around a new strategic vision in the spring of 2022, and the conversations that followed have been remarkable. President Daniels held over 60 listening sessions with nearly 1,200 faculty, students and staff from across the university, as well as our neighbors and community partners in Baltimore, all of which helped to shape this draft of the next strategic framework for the university—the Ten for One, ten ambitious new goals for our One University through the end of the decade.

We invite you to share your thoughts on the document and the path it charts for the future of our university. A final version of the document will be released later this year.

The Ten for One Draft

Time and again, we have demonstrated that when we strive and dream together, our institution can impact the world in enduring and indelible ways. Now is a chance to do that again. This draft strategic framework sets out ten goals for our One University through the coming years. We invite your feedback and ideas on all that it contains.

Share Your Feedback

Join the conversation and planning for the university’s next strategic framework by sharing your reactions, comments and ideas on the Ten for One through May 12, 2023.

The Ten for One sketches a path forward for the university through the rest of the decade. We invite your feedback:

  1. Does the draft reflect the goals you believe the university should be pursuing throughout the next decade?
  2. Are there priorities that you believe are missing from the document?
  3. Are there other specific ideas that you would hope to see the university adopt in the  coming years?

Listening Sessions

President Daniels held more than 60 listening sessions with faculty, students, staff, leadership, and members of the Baltimore community—all of which helped to shape and inform this vision for the decade ahead.

As we embarked upon these listening sessions, we released two documents to guide the discussion. Ten by Twenty and Beyond: Looking Back and Moving Forward chronicled all that we had achieved as a university since the original Ten by Twenty. And Ten by Twenty and Beyond: A Conversation Guide for the Next Strategic Vision  proposed a set of key questions to prompt dialogue and discussion about where Johns Hopkins is headed next.

Revisiting the Ten by Twenty

Released in 2013, the Ten by Twenty plan was an articulation of priorities for the university. Developed through conversations that spanned our university and the communities of which we are a part, the plan mapped our exceptional history, the challenges we faced, and the boundless opportunities that lay ahead. Although we are now looking towards the future, below you will find more information on some of the work that shaped our last decade.
