About Meredith Stewart

As Interim Vice President for Human Resources, Meredith Stewart leads the design, development, and implementation of the HR practices, policies, and programs that help make JHU a world-class institution.  She plays an integral role in strengthening and expanding the university’s HR function by partnering with stakeholders from across the institution to advance key strategic priorities and initiatives. Meredith provides guidance to a team of nearly 300 human resources professionals across the university responsible for HR service delivery to support JHU’s exceptional workforce.  Since joining JHU in 2016 as the University’s inaugural leader of total rewards, Meredith has played a key role in implementing or expanding HR programs. Highlights include leading the development of a birth recovery and parental leave benefit, the expansion of our childcare vouchers and a new childcare scholarship program to JHU-affiliated centers, 403(b) recordkeeper and investment menu optimization and the streamlining of medical plan offerings.

Prior to her current role, Meredith was Vice President, Total Rewards of Algeco Scotsman, a global business services company. In addition, she spent 10 years at T. Rowe Price in compensation and benefits roles of increasing responsibility, and was Vice President, Global Compensation and Benefits at the time of her departure.

She started her career in human resources as a compensation consultant with Mercer Human Resources Consulting in New York after completing an MBA from the College of William and Mary. Meredith also spent three years teaching middle school math and social studies in Virginia and one year teaching with the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme in Ota, Japan after graduating from the College of William and Mary with a BA in Music and Elementary Education.
